'LORD MAYOR'S SHOW' London 12 November 2011

Kerala - Incredible India at Lord Mayor's show 2011

The High Commission of India, London, has secured a place for India's participation in the prestigious Lord Mayor's Show 2011 to be held in London on 12th November. This is the second time India will be participating in it. Last year the Government of J&K participated in it with a Shikhara float.

For background information, the Lord Mayor's Show is an eight century old annual procession through the streets of the City of London. This ceremonial parade begins at the Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor, to the Royal Courts of Justice where the newly elected Lord Mayor takes his oath of allegiance to the Sovereign before the Lord Chief Justice and the Judges of the Queen's Bench Division and then returns to the Mansion House, covering a total distance of 3 miles. The Lord Mayor of the City of London is elected for one year from the elected Aldermen. Over 6000 people marched in the 2010 Lord Mayor's Show, including 2000 servicemen and women, 220 vehicles, 71 floats, 13 marching bands and 21 carriages. It was watched by over half a million people on the streets and millions more watching on BBC live. Foreign countries participate in this parade to showcase their touristic attractions and culture.
